Graphs that tell stories instead of sucking rocks

Graphs that tell stories instead of sucking rocks

In school, my fellow engineers and scientists and I learned to make graphs like the one on the left.

Very high-end management consulting firms made graphs on the right.

Often, by looking at “left style” (or perhaps I should say “styleless”), we had produced.

They were more convincing.

They had more impact.

They got a lot more money.

We should have learned to make the graphs on the right.

They’re pretty simple to create.

Edx has a free course on how to do this using Google’s Looker Studio which is much better suited for this than a spreadsheet.

If you’re still making graphs like the one on the left, it’s a small investment of time, well spent.
